For the price of an average detached home in Toronto, palatial properties can be had elsewhere

In Toronto, it will get you a renovated Etobicoke bungalow by the Humber River.

CBC News in Toronto went house hunting online to see what $1.29 million would buy across Canada. The amount is the average sale price of a detached home in Toronto, according to figures released Wednesday by the Toronto Real Estate Board. It represents a 23 per cent increase from last year. 

Here is what that sort of money can buy. 

2630 McGill St., Vancouver, $1,288,000

With a view of the North Shore Mountains and a wood-burning fireplace, this house has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,327 square feet.

7 Stanley Cr. S.W., Calgary, $1,290,000 

On a park-like pie-shaped lot with over 11,000 square feet of yard, this house has four bedrooms, plus one below grade, four bathrooms and 2,443 square feet of space.

29 Otto Dr., Yellowknife, $975,000 

Offering a panoramic view of Yellowknife Bay, this house has two bedrooms plus den, three bathrooms, 2,661 square feet of interior space and four-tiers of decking with 1,175 square feet in the back yard.

This home located on the shores of Halifax's Northwest Arm is said to be perched on "rolling lawns" that slope down toward the water. It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with 3,250 square feet of space.
