A man in his 60s who died after being struck by a vehicle in Etobicoke Friday has been identified as the fire chief in Schreiber, a community 200 km east of Thunder Bay.

63 year old Pat Bourguignon was crossing Dixon Road at Atwell Drive, near Highway 27, when he was hit, according to Gary Long, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service.

The vehicle remained at the scene.

"Lights in the area were out due to a power outage," Long said on Saturday.

Police received a call about the personal injury collision at 11:54 p.m. Bourguignon was crossing from the south side of Dixon Road to the north side, Long said. Toronto paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

"The community of Schreiber is heartbroken to confirm the sudden passing of our Fire Chief Pat Bourguignon," the mayor's office tweeted.

"Pat was an amazing man and passionately dedicated to his family, his work as a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 34 years and Schreiber's Fire Chief since 2009."

No charges have been laid. The driver is co-operating with police, Long says.

Roads were closed in the area as police reconstructed the collision but they have since been reopened.
