18-year-old man dead in single-vehicle collision in Oshawa early Monday morning

An 18-year-old man was killed early Monday morning after his vehicle swerved off the road and hit a light pole in Oshawa, Durham police say.

An 18-year-old man was killed early Monday morning after his vehicle swerved off the road and hit a light pole in Oshawa, Durham police say. 

The collision happened at around 4:39 a.m. in the area of Grandview Street N. and Rathburn Street, police said in a news release. 

Police believe the vehicle was traveling southbound when it exited the roadway, striking the light pole. 

The 18-year-old was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. 

The area was closed for several hours Monday while investigators collected evidence.
