Wrong number directs Ontario voters to apparent phone sex line
Website error for voters's rights information directs callers to a 'sexy' come-on
A troublesome typo on an online Elections Ontario document leads voters seeking information to a number that appears to be a phone sex line.
The number voters are supposed to call, 1-888-ONT-VOTE, or 1-888-668-8683, works just fine.
Dial it and a message picks up identifying the organization as Elections Ontario.
The problem developed with a typo on an "Ontario Voter Rights" document that transposed a couple numbers in the numerical translation of that toll-free ONT-VOTE number.
The document in question, which was brought to CBC's attention by a viewer, is hard to find on the Elections Ontario website.
But if you clicked on a selected series of navigation links, you could stumble upon it.
And if you dialled that number, you would hear a message that begins: "Hey there, sexy guy."
As of early Tuesday afternoon, the document remained online with an Elections Ontario logo on it.
After CBC News contacted Elections Ontario, the organization confirmed the document had "contained an error in the phone number which has now been corrected."
Elections Ontario said it was "an isolated error which only affected the document as posted on our website."
