Police are appealing for help in identifying a man suspected of a violent assault on a TTC streetcar operator last December.

In a news release issued Thursday, police say they were called on Dec. 3 about reports of an assault on the 55-year-old driver, who was operating a streetcar on Queen Street West headed eastbound at Peter Street.

A man allegedly boarded the front doors of the streetcar with a transfer in his hand.

The streetcar operator reportedly tried to tell the man his transfer was no longer valid and that he should board through the back doors to avoid interfering with people getting off the front of the streetcar.

Police allege the man then reached for a stack of transfers and began punching the operator multiple times in his face and in the back of his head.

The suspect is described as white, medium build, with a moustache and goatee. He was wearing a black toque, zip-up black hooded sweater, black backpack and jeans.
