A man has died following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 404 near Steeles Avenue East close to Markham, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

Police said the collision occurred around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, killing a 23-year-old man from China who was studying in the Greater Toronto Area.

In a video posted on Twitter, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the man's vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control, struck a concrete wall, and rolled several times before coming to rest.

"Investigators also believe that this vehicle was traveling in close proximity to another vehicle," said Schmidt.

The second vehicle was also traveling at a high rate of speed and it lost control as it was going southbound on Highway 404 around Steeles Avenue, Schmidt said, adding that the area has a "slight curve.

"The driver of that vehicle was able to regain control and continue southbound ... that vehicle did not stop," Schmidt said.

He said police believe the driver of the second vehicle has information that could help in the investigation.

"If you're the driver, if you have information that can help please call the Toronto OPP," said Schmidt.

Police said at 8:25 a.m. that all highway lanes have reopened following an investigation.
