How long can a plane float? Can its transponders be turned off and, if so, why? Why aren't jetliners equipped with security cameras?

The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has raised many questions — some of which retired fighter pilot and aviation expert Jock Williams fielded on Friday for CBC Toronto.

Williams appeared live on CBC Toronto's supper-hour newscast, and later took questions online for some 90 minutes, touching on topics including satellite images, black boxes and the possibility that the missing Boeing 777 was hijacked.

Williams is a pilot with more than 50 years of flying experience. He is a retired fighter pilot for the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a flight safety inspector for Transport Canada.
