Library gives lessons in 3D
New printing, scanning technology available at Toronto Reference Library
Interested in 3D printing? The Toronto Reference Library is offering free lessons in the emerging technology for the next six weeks.
Two 3D printers and a 3D scanner are among the new, high-end devices the downtown library made available to the public last month.
The "printing" process creates a solid object by layering thin slices of material including plastic, metal and ceramic.
“It's really empowering to go from that something in your imagination to something you're holding in your hand,” said Derek Quenneville, the library’s newly appointed “innovator in residence,” who leads the classes.
“This sort of technology and skills are just going to be so vital for everybody to know,” he said.
