Metro Morning host Matt Galloway sat down with Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne for a year end interview that touched on the public's trust, the Pan Am Games and Toronto's new mayor.

Kathleen Wynne says she has more work to do when it comes to earning the public’s trust.

Matt Galloway, the host of CBC Radio’s Metro Morning, sat down with Wynne for a 13-minute interview that touched on topics ranging from the public’s perception of her and her Liberal party to next summer’s Pan Am Games.

When asked how she deals with people’s distrust and cynicism toward politicians, and in her case, the Ontario Liberal party, Wynne said she tries to connect with people on an individual level.

“I try to the best of my ability to engage with people everywhere,” she said.

“It’s important to me that people know that when they say something to me I hear it.”

The interview also touched on several topics that have been in the news in recent weeks, including the provincial government’s controversial loan to fund the MARS expansion.

“That money will come back to the people of Ontario,” Wynne said, when pressed on the subject.

“Obviously there have been some challenges … at the end of the day what we have is an asset that will produce a return for the people of Ontario.”

Wynne also said she was pleased to see construction on schedule ahead of the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games. When asked about spending by TO2015 organizers, she said many of those found to have been abusing their expenses have been removed.

“My position is that everyone has to follow the rules,” Wynne said.

The interview also touched on Wynne’s relationship with Toronto’s new mayor, John Tory, and the state of the city in general.
