A 15-year-old girl died after becoming trapped under a crossbar in Bradford, Ont.

Jaime Palm's friends are still coming to grips with her tragic death on a soccer field.

The talented athlete was on a community centre field in Bradford, Ont., when a soccer net fell over and she was caught under the falling crossbar on Wednesday afternoon.

A friend had her back turned when the apparatus fell. Palm was pinned underneath, but the crossbar was too heavy for her friend to lift.

A 911 call was made and Palm was rushed to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. She was just 15 years old.

A day later, Palm's friends were still in shock.

"Jaime was an amazing person," said Nicole Jaskot. "She never failed to make all of us smile and make us all happy. She was good at every sport she played and she's beautiful and we'll never forget her and how amazing she was."

Palm was active in gymnastics, field hockey and soccer. She was also the captain of a volleyball team.

Her coach, Mira Wong, struggled to express the loss of the young athlete.

"I don't think there are any words that can kind of describe, you know, the shock that we're in," she said Thursday.

Flags were at half-mast at Bill Crothers Secondary School, where Palm had been a student, in Unionville, Ont.

The teenager would have been going into Grade 10, when the new school year begins next week.

Her mother is the head of the school's phys-ed department.

When students return to school, grief counsellors will be on hand to provide support.
