Firefighters rescue mother, child from Toronto highrise fire

Toronto firefighters have rescued a mother and her three-year-old child from a fire in a Thorncliffe Park highrise apartment building.

Toronto firefighters have rescued a mother and her three-year-old child from a fire in a Thorncliffe Park highrise apartment building. 

Fire officials say they were called to the scene on Thorncliffe Park Drive near West Don River Trail just before 11 a.m. According to police, there were reports of black smoke in the hallway of the 16th floor of the building.

Fire crews reached the pair on an apartment balcony where they tried to escape from the smoke. Firefighters provided them with oxygen once they were reached. 

Fire crews knocked down the two-alarm fire at around 11:15 a.m. and added no one was seriously injured in the blaze.
