From dating to domestic human trafficking: one woman's story
The story of Olivia's relationship begins like many others: She met her boyfriend in high school, they reconnected over social media and began dating. They had plans to buy a house and start a family.
But not long after, her relationship took a dark turn, and she became the victim of domestic human trafficking.
"Things were really great at the beginning, he was really good to me," Olivia says, whose name and identity is being concealed for this story.
But then things changed. Olivia believes she was manipulated into performing sex acts for money.
"He became abusive emotionally and physically and very controlling and manipulative. He got me into sex work."
At first he told her it was just so they could achieve their dreams of a house and family. She met with men who answered an online advertisement and had sex with them for money.
But soon she realized this sex work was not about achieving her dreams at all.
It became a life she was in for three years.
Last year, the man she thought was her boyfriend was convicted of human trafficking.
