A 27-year-old woman from Mississauga was arrested and charged Thursday in connection with a deadly hit and run collision near Monarch Park.

A 63-year-old man was killed after he was struck on Danforth Avenue, east of Greenwood Avenue, around midnight last night. Police allege the suspect then fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla that police found on Thursday.

Stibbe said members of the public provided crucial information to police.

"We had witnesses that actually followed this vehicle and gave us a tremendous amount of information and as a result we were able to make this arrest," he said.

Police said the man's body was found lying in the middle of the street. Stibbe said it's unclear if he was using a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

The victim hasn't been identified at this time, but he was a resident of the area, police said.

The suspect is charged with dangerous driving causing death, fail to remain and criminal negligence causing death.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who might have surveillance footage is asked to contact police directly or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
