Full service on Toronto's Yonge Street subway line wasrestored in time for Tuesday morning rush hour after crews cleared the site of a deadly accident that closed a section of the line for all of Monday.

Antonio Almeida, 38, died when a piece of equipment fell on the car he was operating, crushing him and injuring two others.

Toronto TransitCommissioncrews worked through the night to remove the wreckage of the three work cars from the tunnel south of Lawrence Station.

Subway cars began running at about 6 a.m. ET through the previously closed section north of the city's downtown between York Mills and Eglinton.

The accident has raised questions about the safety of Toronto Transit Commission employees.

Coun. Adam Giambrone says he's made safety issues a priority since assumingthe job of TTCchair and has beenworkingwith the commission to assessworker safety.

"I remain unconvinced today that we are doing absolutely everything possible for the safety of our workers," said Giambrone.

Almeida, a five-yearTTC employee, was part of an 11-member crew that had just finished a night shift.

A metal piece of equipment used as scaffolding by the crew dislodged from a flatbed trailer being pushed in front of two subway cars and fell on the car Almeida was operating.
