Claire Martin is surprised to see Rick Mercer deliver a gift to her on air.

Claire Martin won’t be providing CBC viewers with any more forecasts after Friday, no matter how much viewers might want her to stay.

That’s because she has taken a new job with a production company in Vancouver, which means she won’t be on the air for CBC.

"It has been a blast," Martin said Thursday about her time at CBC.

Martin joined the CBC in 2005, becoming its first-ever meteorologist.

During her time at CBC, Martin worked in both Toronto and Vancouver.

She has spent the past 18 months working with CBC News Toronto.

Cathy Perry, the managing editor of CBC News Toronto, said that Martin made her mark with viewers long ago.

"Anyone who's done local news knows how important weather is to a program. But when Claire Martin is doing weather those segments get rock star status," Perry said.

"And the audience noticed, with big numbers during big storms.  The only problem with Claire is we could never get her to function on four hours sleep and be a regular on Metro Morning."

CBC News Toronto viewers can tune in Friday to see Martin’s final broadcast as the station’s meteorologist.
