Child struck by air conditioning unit that fell from 8th floor of building

A child has been sent to a trauma centre with critical injuries after being struck by an air conditioning unit that fell from the eighth floor of a Scarborough residential building, Toronto police say.

A child has been sent to a trauma centre with critical injuries after being struck by an air conditioning unit that fell from the eighth floor of a Scarborough residential building, Toronto police say.

Police say it happened on Monday afternoon outside the building in the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Mossbank Drive, near Scarborough Golf Club Road.

Emergency crews were called to the area at about 3:30 p.m.

Toronto paramedics took the child to a pediatric trauma centre by emergency run.

The child's age and sex have not been released.

Police have taped off the area where the child was hit.
