CBC's Shad to replace Action Bronson at NXNE
Shake up due to online petition
CBC's Shad has been named a replacement for the controversy-plagued rapper Action Bronson in a free, all-ages outdoor concert this summer in downtown Toronto.
Action Bronson, a New York rapper with a song called Consensual Rape, was the subject of a protest against his lyrics. A petition by Toronto woman Erica Shiner called his songs misogynistic and said the lyrics qualified as hate speech.
NXNE, an annual summer festival, initially dismissed the petition, telling Shiner and other concert-goers to simply avoid the downtown show.
The festival later reversed course and asked Action Bronson to play at another venue that was not public and all-ages.
The rapper reportedly declined the request.
Shad is the host of CBC Radio One's q, but has several albums to his name as a local rapper.
