Blue Jays fans flood Cleveland couple with apologies after they were harassed at Toronto game
Cleveland fans Gina and Joe Kijowski say they’ve received close to 200 kind messages
Blue Jays fans are hurrying to apologize to a Cleveland couple who said they were sworn at and had beer tipped on them at a Toronto game.
Cleveland fans Gina and Joe Kijowski said they've received about 200 messages on Facebook since CBC News published a story about the negative experience they had at Monday night's game.
Almost 10 people have also picked up the phone and called Joe Kijowski at his office, including Jays fan Brad Oliver.
"I wanted to clear the air with him and let him know that that's not what we're about," said Oliver, who called Kijowski on Tuesday morning.
After getting off the phone, Oliver followed up with an email reiterating his apology on behalf of "all REAL Toronto sports fans."
"I wrapped it up by saying, 'If you do come up to Toronto for Game 5, I'll buy you dinner,'" said Oliver.
Seeing all the messages come in has been "amazing," Joe Kijowski said in an interview.
"It says a lot about a lot of people," he said, adding that he would consider coming back to Toronto.
"I don't think we'd come back and wear Cleveland gear to a baseball game, though."
