What's Up this weekend in Thunder Bay

Here's a look at some of the cool, fun things to do this weekend in Thunder Bay and area.

Entertainment Columnist Jolene Banning gives a run down of local events

Working 9-to-5 or going to school Monday through Friday means you want to make the most out of your weekend.

This weekend, Thunder Bay is packed with music, music and more music.

Grab your friends and make a plan to make the most out of all the music concerts taking place in our city.

Music For The Masses

Friday Sept. 19, six venues will host 36 local acts and four touring acts. The venues are: Crocks, Black Pirates Pub, The Foundry, Tony and Adams, A Little To The Left, and Gargoyles. Pay $10 for a wrist band that will give you access to all venues. A word of caution - map out your favourite acts and get there before the crowds fill the space! Last year over 3000 people attended.

Spaceport Union

Spaceport Union has been described as a progressive art rock band. They're currently on tour and stopping in Thunder Bay en route to Toronto where they plan to record their second album. They perform Friday Sept.19 at the Apollo. Cover charge is $5 at the door.

Camo Formal at Beaux Daddy's Grill House

My first thought when I hear the word Camo is hunting. It never occurred to me that you could pair Camo with Formal and come up with a fashion trend, but I'm opened minded so I'll give it a go. The Knackers, a local 6-piece celtic folk rock band, is providing live music for the evening. You can expect to hear guitars, mandolin, flutes and whistles with strong vocal harmonies. The results can only lead to hand-clapping and dancing. Tickets for the Knackers only are $15 at the door, after 9 p.m. It's all happening Saturday, Sept. 20 at Beaux Daddy's Grill House.

On Sunday night family and friends of Nipigon artist, Jory Zechner will gather to watch her compete on the TV competition The Next Star. You can join the viewing party at the Nipigon Curling Club.

Next Star Finale Viewing Party

Nipigon's Jory Zechner is one of six finalists on The Next Star, a competition on YTV.  During the big finale on Sunday Sept. 21, we find out if she made it to the top spot. You can show your support by joining the viewing party with all her family and friends at the Nipigon Curling Club. Get there early because the show starts at 7 pm on Sunday Sept. 21, 2014.
