A gas leak forced the closure of Victoriaville Mall, as well as nearby offices and businesses for much of the day on Friday.

A news release from the city said the mall, the Victoriaville Civic Centre, and neighbouring businesses were all evacuated Friday morning.

Although the release from the city said it was because of "a gas leak" a spokesperson for Union Gas said the evacuation was due to an unknown odour.

Union Gas crews were sent to the scene to investigate, along with Thunder Bay firefighters.

Union Gas reported Friday afternoon that it had done a thorough check of Victoriaville and found all gas supply apparatus in normal working order.

A spokesperson for Victoriaville Mall said after the all-clear was given, the mall was reopened.  However a spokesperson for the city said municipal offices in Victoriaville Centre and Victoriaville Mall would remain closed for the rest of the day due to weather conditions.
