Students at Lakehead University and Confederation College pay about $100 a year for a Thunder Bay Transit pass but the city wants them to pay more.

The matter debated at Monday night's city council meeting in Thunder Bay, as the contract for the U-Pass is up for renewal.

The pass — or U-Pass — is part of every full time student's fees.

Student union representatives say they want the price to, more or less, remain the same and are eyeing a long-term deal.

Listen to more of the debate from last night's council meeting and hear what Coun. Shelby Ch'ng, LUSU president Roman Jakubowski and councillor Brian McKinnon had to say:

Students at Lakehead University and Confederation College pay about a hundred dollars a year for a city transit pass. But, the city wants them to pay more. We'll hear some of the debate that took place at Thunder Bay city council last night.
