Toronto transit officials make trek to Thunder Bay

Officials with the Toronto Transit Commission are in Thunder Bay this week to check out the new streetcars built at the Bombardier plant.

Some city councillors in Toronto say they're concerned the longer streetcars won't work on that city's streets, as they will be double the length of a standard streetcar.

A spokesperson with the TTC said staff members have been going back and forth between the two cities to keep an eye on how the cars are built.

"We do need to test it," Brad Ross said. "We do need to make sure that any tricky pieces of track that we know exist in the city, those really tight turns, those switches, that it can navigate those without issue."

Ross said the cars will also get checked out on Toronto's streets before being put into service with passengers.
