Thunder Bay waterfront condos ready for 1st tenants
Hotel construction on schedule as waterfront development enters next phase
Starting Tuesday, Thunder Bay residents will be able to live on the city's waterfront for the first time.
Buyers of the new condominiums will start moving into the south tower, which is the first of the two towers at the development.
Developer ReSolve Group Inc. says all but six units in the two condos have been sold.
Next door, the developer has covered the foundation for the new Delta hotel for the winter, with the underground parkade nearing completion.
The 150-room, four-star hotel will include a conference centre and 500-seat banquet facility.
ReSolve president Gisele MacDonald says the project is on schedule despite the run of bad weather within the past year.
"The quality of the workmanship and everything on the building is extremely good," she said. "With having a really rough winter and a rough spring, it's a little bit of a miracle that we were able to continue to do what we had promised that we would do."
MacDonald says work on the hotel's superstructure will start in March, weather permitting.
The city is also moving ahead with the next phase of its waterfront development master plan: On Thursday evening, the city begins public consultations on the future of the area south of Pearl Street, including improvements to the Festival area.
