The Thunder Bay Port Authority says the city’s port has processed a million tonnes in grain shipments for the fifth month in a row.

More than 900,000 metric tonnes of grain from western Canada were loaded at port elevators during September — nearly 50 per cent more than the same month last year.

Grain volumes for 2014 have so far already surpassed the final volumes in 2013.

Port officials have said activity like this creates jobs in Thunder Bay for grain-handlers and other port workers.
