Thunder Bay hospital water advisory lifted

Patients, staff and visitors at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre have received the go-ahead to drink tapwater once again.

Advisory that was issued Tuesday was rescinded Thursday afternoon following lab tests

The precautionary water advisory issued for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and nearby businesses and residences was lifted after lab tests were completed.

Patients, staff and visitors at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre have received the go-ahead to drink water from taps or faucets in the hospital once again.

The water advisory issued by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Tuesday was rescinded on Thursday afternoon, following the completion of laboratory tests on water samples.

The advisory was issued earlier in the week after discoloured water started flowing from taps in the hospital and surrounding area. The City of Thunder Bay said it was likely that the commissioning of a new water main had stirred up sediment in the pipes.

The Health Unit issued a statement saying its Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory was removed because bacteriological samples taken from the water supply had proven to be satisfactory, indicating the supply is safe and potable.

The hospital had been giving patients and staff bottled water and juice while the advisory was in effect.
