No explosives aboard: Thunder Bay Police say grounded Westjet cleared to resume Ottawa trip

With no danger to plane or passengers, police will now turn he investigation over to the RCMP.

Thunder Bay Police have reported that an emergency that grounded a Westjet flight bound from Vancouver to Ottawa has concluded, and the flight will resume this afternoon. 
 According to RCMP, a Westjet flight from Vancouver to Ottawa was diverted to Thunder Bay just after 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police had received information of a possible explosive onboard the aircraft.

TBPS assisted Ontario Provincial Police with the investigation, which showed no signs of explosives aboard.

Westjet said that a report of explosives aboard the Ottawa-bound flight were "non-specific and non-credible."

The Thunder Bay Airport Authority activated their Emergency Communication Centre to deal with the incident. The Thunder Bay Police Service, Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue and the OPP responded to the airport.

The Westjet 737 landed safely in Thunder Bay and was parked in a secure area of the airport. 
125 passengers and the crew from Westjet flight 142 were safely escorted off the aircraft and spent the evening at a local hotel.  
The RCMP is continuing the investigation which will include speaking with passengers and crew of the flight.
