Ontario Provincial Police have released details about a fatal incident in Quetico Provincial Park.

A 63-year-old American visitor died this week after a tree fell on his tent during a storm.

Police say they received a call for help Tuesday morning.

A group of canoers reported their companion was unresponsive after being hit by a tree while sleeping at a campsite at Point Lake, and that their lifesaving efforts had been unsuccessful.

OPP flew to the scene in a Ministry of Natural Resources helicopter.

Police say a post-mortem conducted in Kenora determined that Charles Emerson Showalter of Wheeling West Virginia had succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the incident.
