Oliver Road reopened after truck took down power lines

Thunder Bay Police say Oliver Road was reopened between Belrose and Beckwick Roads shortly after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.

An accident near Belrose Road left hundreds of Thunder Bay Hydro customers without power

Thunder Bay Police say Oliver Road was reopened between Belrose and Beckwick Roads shortly after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The road had been closed after a collision Monday in the lunch hour when a service truck with its boom still extended attempted to exit a private driveway onto Oliver Road near Belrose Road.

It snagged some wires and caused it to overturn, knocking out power to hundreds of customers.

Tbaytel said the incident also disrupted landline, high-speed internet and Digital TV service for some of its customers.

Police said the driver was not seriously hurt in the rollover.

On Monday, a hydro spokesperson said that initially about 1,300 customers were affected, but that number was down to 125 by later in the day. Most of those customers were expected to have power restored by about 7 p.m., but hydro expected some would remain off the grid until later in the evening.

Traffic was disrupted while utility crews worked to repair the damage, and until the truck could be removed.
