A 34-year-old man died by suicide in Neskantaga First Nation early Monday morning, leaving behind his 10-year-old daughter.

It's the 11th suicide in the last two years in the remote community, about 500 km north of Thunder Bay, and the second time a young man has died by suicide during the Christmas season.

Last year, the chief's son died on Boxing Day.

"Your prayers and thoughts will gladly be appreciated as the community is in tremendous shock at the moment," a community leader wrote in an email detailing the loss.
