Mosquitoes are expected to come out in droves in the month of June, according to a Thunder Bay entomologist.

Ken Deacon, with Thunder Bay’s District Health Unit, says he is expecting the blood-sucking insects to come out “in the zillions” in the upcoming month but adds that the risk of the West Nile virus is not expected to increase.

“With a winter like this, there should be no change in the degree of risk, it’s a very low risk here in Thunder Bay,” Deacon said. “We don’t seem to have the right species to transmit the disease.”

However, Deacon still recommends taking precautions such as covering up when the mosquitoes are out.
