Moose hunt changes coming for 2015
Ontario says it will cut tags, shorten the season for calves in north
The Ontario government has announced more changes to the province's moose hunt, starting this fall.
Beginning in autumn 2015, Ontario is reducing resident hunter moose tags by 15 per cent across the province, and is shortening the hunting season for moose calves in northern Ontario.
In 2016, the moose season will be delayed by one week across much of northern Ontario.
The province said the actions are designed to help sustain and build Ontario's moose populations.
The changes to the moose hunting season are the first phase of the Moose Project, a multi-year initiative that explores potential actions the province can take to reduce pressures on moose populations.
The province said the second phase of the Moose Project is expected to launch later in 2015.
It will identify additional measures that could be taken to address a broader range of factors impacting moose.
