Funds raised will help defray costs of staying at Knox United Church

Kenora's emergency shelter is holding a fundraising concert Saturday night to help cover the cost of its temporary stay at Knox United Church in the city.

The money collected on the weekend will cover the cost of things like bottled water, toilet paper, cleaning supplies and laundry services, said Patti Fairfield, executive director of the NeChee Friendship Centre.

"So there was just some things we didn't realize initially when we had this agreement, about the water and the cleaning supplies, and we have to send the blankets out to be washed every second day, which is a huge expense as well, so just things that we needed think about that we needed some help financially to carry through," Fairfield said.

The emergency shelter needs to find new accommodation by October 1, when its agreement with the church expires, Fairfield said.

She also said she hopes the new location, when they find it, includes showers and laundry facilities.
