Ignace should have user-pay system for garbage pick-up: mayor
Taking trash to the curb will continue for at least a few more weeks in Ignace.
Town council met on Wednesday night, but could not reach a decision on how to handle garbage collection.
At a previous meeting, council voted to cancel the service.
Mayor Lee Kennard said he wants a user-pay system.
"We're trying to make the garbage collection fair for everybody," he said.
"[For] the guy who does one bag, maybe we'll do bag tags. Then the guy who does one bag [won't] have to pay hardly much. Then the guy who's got 10, he's gotta pay more."
Kennard said curbside collection will continue until the issue is settled.
He added one major challenge is to ensure garbage pickup will continue for businesses in Ignace.
"They're all going to fit in. Really, nothing's going to change for them as of yet. They will be getting their garbage picked up," he said.
"We have to decide on the means. We have to decide on how we're doing it. There's a lot to discuss."
