Hunting season boosts business for Thunder Bay butcher
Despite a drastic reduction in the number of moose tags given out this fall, one Thunder Bay butcher says business is good.
Preparing game is a big business in Northwestern Ontario, where many people love to hunt.
Despite a drastic reduction in the number of moose tags given out this fall, one Thunder Bay butcher says business is good.
Jukka Liimu owns European Meats in Thunder Bay, a family shop that has been supplying customers with smokies, pepperettes, and kielbasa since 1981.
Liimu was prepared for a dip in business this hunting season, "but surprisingly enough at the beginning of this season, we had quite a large influx of moose, which I was not expecting," he said.
Liimu said last fall was a particularly busy one, and this year is about on par.
He's handling plenty of deer, as well as moose.
