Facebook post helps police track down robbery suspect

Thunder Bay police say they used a posting on Facebook to help track down a suspect in a robbery.

Thunder Bay police say they used a posting on Facebook to help track down a suspect in a robbery.

A 19-year-old man has been remanded in custody after giving himself up at police headquarters Sunday night.

Police said that, after a holdup Friday at a Mac's store on Simpson Street, someone posted on Facebook that he had committed the robbery.

Detectives followed up by getting a search warrant for a residence.

They found evidence at the scene, and later obtained an arrest warrant.

Police spokesperson Constable Julie Tilbury said the incident "is something we may start seeing more often … [considering] how much people post about their personal lives."

Besides robbery, a man who lives at the address where the search was conducted faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and breach of probation.
