Event centre parkade on hold
A proposed 200-space parking structure, to be built with the proposed Thunder Bay Event and Convention Centre has been put on hold.
City administration say that in the current phase of study, consultants and city officials are determining if the parking structure is actually required.
In an e-mail to CBC News on Friday, Michael Smith, Manager of Facilities and Fleet said, "One of the stages of the Phase 3 is to take a further look and study traffic and parking requirements for the TBECC. Therefore determining if we need the parking structure in the area is part of that work."
The cost of the proposed parkade would be $6 million.
Elimination of the structure would bring the total price of the event centre to $100 million, making the project eligible for the federal government's Building Canada Fund.
