A born and raised Thunder Bay musician has been nominated for a Juno award for breakthrough artist of the year.

Coleman Hell, the raspy-voiced singer, songwriter and producer, was born and raised on the northern shores of Lake Superior. He had a momentous 2015 with his hit track 2 Heads.

Hell signed with Columbia Records last spring and is expected to release his first full-length album this year.

Now based in Toronto, the Canadian musician is up against Scott Helman, Alessia Cara, Francesco Yates and Tobias Jesso Jr. for the artistic distinction.

The 45th annual Juno awards are taking place from March 28 to April 3 in Calgary. The awards are presented annually to Canada's finest musical artists and bands.
