CN train derails east of Hornepayne in northern Ontario
CN is reporting that track repairs are now underway at the site of a 16-car train derailment about 90 kilometres east of Hornepayne in a remote area of northern Ontario.
The derailment occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday and was reported to CN by the train crew.
"CN officials onsite confirm no injuries and no fire," the company tweeted shortly after 1 p.m.
"Derailed cars are residue tank cars that last contained crude oil or gasoline. CN crews found no indications of leaks or spillage of product."
The railway said "crews, including senior officers in our operating, engineering, dangerous goods and environment departments are responding" to the derailment.
Late Thursday, CN issued a statement saying the derailed cars had been cleared from the mainline and were beginning track repairs. It said the rail line was expected to be back in service Thursday night.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
