Car collides with man operating snowblower on Hwy 61
A Thunder Bay area man was taken to hospital today after he was hit by a car while using his snowblower.
The accident happened on Highway 61 near Riverdale Road, just before noon.
The OPP report the driver of a compact car was northbound when the vehicle went out of control and struck a 71-year-old man who was snowblowing the area around his mailbox.
Police said he suffered serious injuries.
The driver was not hurt but the vehicle sustained extensive damage.
Snow created slippery conditions on area highways.
"Obviously the weather is not the greatest today, so you gotta take care when you're driving in these kind of conditions," said OPP Sergeant Don Everts, who was one of the officers at the scene.
Police are still investigating the accident.
OPP also reported numerous collisions on Highway 17 in the Dryden and Ignace areas.
