Canada Post in Thunder Bay is set to begin changing its door-to-door mail delivery system to community mailboxes.

The postal codes affected start with P7A, P7B, P7C and P7E.

A total of 31,077 addresses will be converted in 2016.

In a statement issued Friday, Canada Post said this is part of a five-year initiative to convert one-third of Canadian addresses to community mailboxes.

Since the program began in 2014, one million addresses have been or are in the various stages of the conversion process, in an effort to secure postal service for the future, Canada Post stated.

A progress report of the initiative can be found here.

Each affected resident will receive an information package with a mail-in survey. The package will tell them how they can express their priorities and preferences about their new delivery method.

Canada Post states 260,000 Canadians have so far shared their insights through this survey, which helps in the selection of  safe, suitable locations for the community mailboxes, Canada Post stated.
