The city of Timmins is celebrating a milestone on the redevelopment of the Golden Manor long-term care home. A beam-topping ceremony, which is a construction tradition, was held to celebrate the completion of the structural phase of the project.

Mayor Michelle Boileau was joined by Timmins MPP George Pirie, city councillor John Curley, members of the construction crew, and project staff from the city and from Golden Manor.

"The beam topping ceremony not only represents a milestone in construction, but acknowledges the effort and hard work of the engineering and construction teams," said Boileau.

"They are building the future home of the Golden Manor. This is a generational project for the community. We need to ensure that accessible and effective long-term care is available to meet the needs of older adults and individuals who require assisted care."

The second phase of the Golden Manor redevelopment continues with contractors now focused on closing the building off, which includes adding exterior walls, windows, insulation, and roofing. Interior mechanical work is also starting.

The new 192-bed Home will replace the current 177-bed facility with more room and improved accessibility.
