You're invited to a community celebration in Sudbury on Saturday — even if you don't live in the neighbourhood.

Sudbury's Ward 1 Community Action Network (CAN) and the West End Best Start Hub are hosting the West End Block Party, including a free BBQ, bike rodeo and children's clothing swap.

Dawn Raymond is a member of the Ward 1 CAN, and she helped to organize the event.

"We were just trying to think of ideas of how to get families out and become aware of the services that are available in our area," she said.

"We thought, 'Why not have a big party'?"

Raymond said she hopes to see people from all corners of Ward 1 come to celebrate the community.

"The older, the young — it is a really diverse ward, and we just want to bring everybody together."

The free event will be held Saturday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Marguerite Lougheed Park at the corner of Eyre Street and Albert Street.

Events and attractions include:

  • Bicycle rodeo (bring a helmet!)
  • Face painting
  • Fire truck
  • Children's clothing exchange
  • Planting a new community garden
  • Tree planting
  • Live music
  • Free BBQ
