Sudbury to celebrate OktoberFest in Bell Park
From craft beer tasting to German food, those looking to celebrate OcktoberFest will find what they need in Sudbury's Bell Park this weekend.
Northern Lights Festival Boreal is known for its summer folk festival, but for the first time, it's hosting the Northern Lights OktoberFest on Friday and Saturday.
NLFB Executive Director Max Merrifield said organizers are ready for whatever weather the weekend has in store.
"We have several gigantic tents to cover everyone if there is rain and wind. We also have several industrial-strength heaters, so we will be pumping heat in under those tents," he said.
"We are really making an effort to make everyone comfortable."
Max Merrifield joined CBC Sudbury Morning North host Markus Schwabe in studio on Thursday:
The festival will feature craft beer tasting from a variety of breweries, a lineup of live music, German style foods, and cultural activities. The event is meant to be a harvest celebration, but is also a fundraiser for NLFB.
NLFB has also teamed-up with the Sudbury German Language School for the event. Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, and the original event has been held in Munich since 1810.
Tickets are $20 and include entrance for both days of the event. Tickets are available online and at Laurentian SGA, Old Rock Roastery, Gloria’s Convenience, and the NLFB office.
