Sudbury's Pearl St. water tower back on the real estate market

One of Sudbury's most prominent landmarks is up for sale again.
The last of Sudbury's iconic twin water towers is up for sale. The Pearl Street tower overlooking the Kingsway has been listed for 865-thousand dollars. For the last four years, it's been used as a platform to hold giant billboards. Before that there were schemes to turn it into condominiums, a lookout restaurant or luxury office space. One of Sudbury's most prominent landmarks is up for sale again.

The green Pearl Street water tower is listed for $865,000.

The structure was built in 1956, shut down in 1998 and then sold to a private developer a few years later. But, plans to turn it into condominiums and a restaurant didn't go anywhere.

It was then bought by Jeff Perreault, who outfitted the tower with the large advertising billboards and spotlights.

But, he told CBC in 2011 that he still had bigger dreams for the tower itself.

"There's no point on just doing billboards, there's really not," he said.

"I'm too creative a guy to have this great, great building just sit and not do anything. So, no, we'll develop it."

Neither Perreault nor his partners in the water tower venture could be reached for comment.

The last time the water tower was for sale, there was concern it would be demolished and talk of making it a heritage landmark.

Sudbury's Pine Street water tower was taken apart in 2011 and the land underneath was turned into a city park.
