Sudbury Mission struggles to feed overflow of clients

The Elgin Street Mission in Sudbury is figuring out how to prepare more hot meals for additional clients.

The Salvation Army has announced it's not offering meals to the public while it repairs its kitchen, and has also cancelled its Sunday community meal — and that puts the pressure on the Mission in Sudbury.

Pastor Rene Souilliere said he has been feeding about 250 people.

He said he's budgeting for another 100 people per meal because of the Salvation Army cutting back.

But he said he's not exactly sure how many will need meals.

“This is one poor place feeding the other poor place so that the poor have a place to go,” he said.

Souilliere said he's not sure how the Mission will afford more food, as the Mission is a charity and doesn't get money from the city.
