City councillors voted Tuesday night to charge a user fee for a burial permit.
Outside of business hours, where city workers digging the grave would be paid overtime, the fee will go up an additional $65.
This is expected to bring about $43,000 a year into city coffers.
The decision on the permit won't be final until a vote at a future council meeting.
The city has not charged for burial permits in the past, but is one of the few cities in the province that doesn't.
Most Ontario cities already charge for burial permits, such as Timmins, where it's $30 and North Bay, where it's $40.
