Sudbury library cracks open 25-year-old time capsule

Plans underway to put together another time capsule to be opened 25 years from now

The city of Greater Sudbury opened a 25 year-old time capsule Tuesday at its main library branch.

The library system is celebrating 100 years of existence and part of that celebration involves opening a capsule from 1987.

Included in the box were items like a loonie, several issues of local newspapers and an advertising flyer for Sudbury Downs.

Ron Henderson, director of Library Services with the city, said staff will create a new time capsule to be opened in 25 years.

"In 2037... I'm thinking if we put a DVD in there, for instance, in 2037 someone might say … ‘what's that?’ Who knows what 2037 is going to be about," Henderson said.

The last capsule was kept in the library's basement for the last 25 years.
