Recruitment for more doctors is underway at Sudbury's Health Sciences North.

The chief of staff at the hospital said HSN's priorities are attracting family doctors who might want to relocate to the city.

Chris Bourdon said the hospital is also looking to recruit surgeons with certain medical specialities.

"Most urgent needs are in general, internal medicine — medical specialists who look after adults who have complicated medical conditions," he said.

"We currently have a shortage of those. We also have needs in internal medicine sub-specialties, like someone who might have a speciality in respirology, neurology or endocrinology."

Bourdon said there have been 17 new recruits this year.

The hospital is also looking at recruiting international medical graduates in the coming year.
