Sudbury community halls sitting empty: report

Greater Sudbury is considering charging non-profit groups that hold fundraising events in community halls.

City council has been looking for ways to cover the costs of running the dozen or so community halls spread throughout Greater Sudbury.

At a meeting Monday night, councillors will consider a report by staff suggesting non-profit groups that use the halls for fundraising be charged a rental fee.

The report also says the city should invest more money in maintaining and marketing the halls.

Some of the halls often sit empty. For example, halls in the community centres in Falconbridge and Onaping were each used five times last year.
