Sudbury-born filmmaker brings movie home for Cinéfest
André Bharti, son of Laurentian engineering school benefactor Stan Bharti, showing "My Ex-Ex"
André Bharti said he tried to follow in his dad's footsteps, but the film industry is a much better fit than mining engineering.
Bharti, who was raised in Sudbury, wrote, directed and starred in the feature-length film "My Ex-Ex". It's showing at Cinéfest Monday night.
His father, Stan Bharti, is a mining engineer and successful businessman. Bharti made a $10 million donation to Laurentian University in 2011, and the school of engineering now bears his name.
André, who now lives in Toronto, said his movie gives a nod to his own foray into industry and business.
"You'll see that part of me trying to be that guy, that mining guy," Bharti said. "I did my best [in business], but I didn't do very well at it."
He characterizes his movie "My Ex-Ex" as "a romantic comedy on crack".
Bharti spoke with CBC Sudbury Morning North radio show host Markus Schwabe.
"My Ex-Ex" will screen as a part of Cinéfest on Monday, September 15. Tune into Morning North this week for your chance to win tickets to Cinefest films.
